Futurist Bicycle Sketch

In testing out the Adonit Jot Touch Pixelpoint stylus with the Procreate iPad app, I drew this image inspired in part by the futurist exhibit I had seen months ago at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Specifically, I came to style this short piece thinking about replication, motion (and conveying time in 2D), and jumped in with the intent of being less firm with an object’s contours.

Recent thinking about the terribly maintained bike lane on Beacon Street in Somerville, Massachusetts and a conversation about Vittorio DeSica’s Ladri di Biciclette (The Bicycle Thieves) led to my choice of subject.  The choice of brighter colors on a dark background was inspired by the spoke-mounted lights I had just bought for my bicycle.
